Dhund (translation: Fog) is a 1973 Hindi movie produced and directed by B. R. Chopra. The film is based on Agatha Christie's play, The Unexpected Guest, and stars Sanjay Khan, his then flame Zeenat Aman, Danny Denzongpa, Deven Verma, Madan Puri, Navin Nischol and Ashok Kumar. The music is by Ravi.
Dhund is the story of a young woman (Zeenat Aman), whose invalid husband (Danny Denzongpa) is murdered. The finger of suspicion points at the young widow and her former boyfriend (Sanjay Khan), but the killer is someone else. It is a taut thriller with a fantastic performance by Denzongpa. Two of the songs, "Sansar ki har sheh ka" and "Uljhan suljhe na" were hits.
Zeenat Aman is married to Danny Dengzongpa. Danny is a rich but wheelchair ridden man. Since Aman is a beautiful woman, Danny is paranoid & his constant taunts & accusations make Aman's life miserable. One day, Sanjay Khan, a stranger comes to their home. Exasperated with her husband, Aman suddenly gets attracted to Sanjay.
Danny senses this tension & makes their life miserable. Sanjay decides to have a talk with Danny & give him a piece of his mind. Danny is in his room, locked from inside. Aman, who fears that Danny might harm Sanjay, tries to convince Sanjay from talking to Danny. Just then, a plane passing from a nearby airport drowns all the noise. Khan bursts into Danny's room only to find him dead. Circumstantial evidence makes Khan the murderer.
The murder case is taken to the court, where Khan is tried for murder & Aman for abetment to murder. Just as their end seems near, Navin Nischal, another stranger, makes an entry. None of the persons in the case know him, but he claims to have an important information regarding the case. Navin tells the court that Danny had raped a girl & drove her to suicide while he was in college. The girl's lover tried to find Danny & finally tracked him. It was this lover who killed Danny.
However, after the murder, the killer ran into the girl, who was living as a nun under another name. After hearing his confession, the girl told him to tell the truth to the world. Thus, Navin reveals himself as a murderer & surrenders the murder weapon. Sanjay & Aman are exonerated.
The movie is one of the best suspense movies so ever produced in India.
